Following her resignation from the Miss Grand International (MGI) 2024 title, 21-year-old Rachel Gupta recently became the center of a controversy. In Instagram postings that have surfaced days after Rachel said she would be resigning from her position, Vice President of Miss Universe (Asiana) and Miss Grand International president Nawat Itsaragrisil body-shamed her and claimed she had undergone 'surgery.'

Nawat uploaded two photos of Rachel to his Instagram stories with the captions "Before" and "After," as seen in screenshots taken from the Indian Pageant and Glamour Instagram account. He also shared another picture of Rachel, claiming she had undergone cosmetic surgery. "She told us she ate a lot of protein when we inquired, but she did not get permission from the organization, nor did she speak. She verified that she had no surgery at all…(sic)."

“This is too much,” an Instagram user posted. How can someone do this, particularly when they are one of the event organizers? To give women power? And do this?

"Did MGI organization simply body shame Rachel Gupta on their tale?" asked another. They only hide behind the banner of women's empowerment, which is absurd because they have no regard for women. So brazen.

"Shocked at the lack of professionalism," said one of the comments. "Precisely my point, people are prepared to ignore anything for a crown," another responded. However, let's be honest: why put up with this for other people when we wouldn't want our sisters, nieces, or daughters in the same position? Rachel announced her resignation in a letter she published on Instagram on May 28, and on May 29, she posted a video on YouTube outlining her perspective and the poisonous atmosphere she experienced under the direction of the Miss Grand International organization.
