Marco 2 May Proceed Without Unni Mukundan, But Producers Insist ‘It’s Not Over Yet’

One of the "most violent" films ever produced in India was Marco, Haneef Adneni's Malayalam movie. The production company Cube Entertainments announced that they will be further exploring the world a few weeks after the lead actor Unni Mukundan declared that the "negativity" around the sequel would cause him to not participate.
Unni Mukundan is missing from Marco 2?
On the Instagram page of the production company, a follower expressed their desire for Marco 2, even if it were produced by a different company. They replied, "Thank you for the overwhelming love and support for Marco. The Marco series is still being discussed. The Marco is owned entirely by Cubes Entertainments, and we have faith in the potential of the journey. Note: The rights to this franchise are not something we are willing to share or transfer.
Marco sequel will not be done by Unni Mukundan
Unni made it plain in June of this year that he no longer wanted to portray the role. "Bro, apologies but I have abandoned plans to continue the Marco series," he said on Instagram when a fan asked him about the sequel. There's too much negativity surrounding the project. I will make an effort to provide anything larger and better than Marco. I appreciate your love and optimism. Cheers! “Any chance for part 2?” asked another fan, to which he answered, “Absolutely no chance.”
The world of Mikhael
Unni played the first version of the character Marco in Haneef's 2019 hit film Mikhael, which featured Nivin Pauly in the main role, in case you weren't aware. The movie concludes with the death of Marco, the villain. The spin-off, which came out in 2024, however, featured a different plot about his character, in which Marco goes on a rampage after the murder of a loved one. Given that Marco's narrative has previously been rewritten, it's conceivable that the production company may be considering doing so once more with a different performer, considering Unni's apathy.
The 'negativity' the actor is referring to is the criticism the movie garnered for its excessive violence, particularly in moments involving women and children. The producers' request for a UA certificate to acquire television rights in February of this year was turned down by the CBFC as well. “From here on, I will not make any film that apparently promotes violence,” the movie's producer, Shareef Mohammed, stated in March.
