Manushi Chhillar Challenges the Film Industry’s Double Standards

The perception of women in the entertainment industry is frequently "discussed with such disrespect and contempt," according to Manushi Chillar. Manushi took to her X account on Saturday to address the pervasive misogyny in the industry.

What Manushi said

Manushi started her tweet by stating, "A misogynistic mindset finds it easier to attribute a woman's success to a man's patronage than her own merit," without mentioning anybody in the sector or any particular event. Although I've always paid very little attention to absurd remarks that have no bearing on reality, I'm continually struck by how disrespectfully and disdainfully working women, particularly those in the entertainment industry, are spoken of.

‘Is there a deep rooted bias?’

"I grew up in an educated, empowered environment where everyone had equal worth to contribute regardless of gender," she continued. However, I have also encountered the mindset that "men are industrious and skilled if they are successful, but women are opportunistic, gold diggers, or manipulators." Is it as easy as saying, "If you hear something negative about a woman, it's from a man who can't have her or a woman who can't be her"? Or are there entrenched prejudices?

After winning Miss World in 2017, Manushi made her Bollywood debut in the historical drama Samrat Prithviraj, which starred Akshay Kumar. It didn't do well financially and had bad reviews. After that, she worked on projects like Operation Valentine and The Great Indian Family, which co-starred Vicky Kaushal. She was last seen alongside Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and Alaya F in the movie Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which proved to be a commercial flop. Her next role will be in Tehran, where she will co-star with John Abraham.
