After having a heart attack in London, Sunjay Kapur, the former husband of Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor, passed away on June 12. On June 22, Karisma was in Delhi for Sunjay's prayer meeting with her kids, sister Kareena Kapoor, and brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan. In an emotional farewell letter to her brother, Sunjay, Mandhira Kapur, Sunjay's sister, disclosed that she hadn't spoken to him for the past four years.
With tears in her eyes, Mandhira says goodbye to her brother Sunjay
"My brother and I may not have spoken for the last four years, a silly sibling squabble escalated to crazy levels due to egos and natural bullishness; however, that will never take back what we were and what we had," Mandhira posted on Instagram, along with a few childhood photos. The amazing moments we had, a lucky childhood of joy with two amazing parents, the secrets we would keep, the late nights and even later escapes from the house, the silly in-jokes that the three of us maintained for years, the hours of laughter we shared while others looked at us in complete bewilderment. He was a true big brother and a buddy, always looking out for me and my sister.
She said, "What happened towards the end has been both horrible and pointless," and regretted that she couldn't patch things up with him. I'll never get to experience my time with him again. It's heartbreaking that we didn't repair what had been broken, and now my heart is the same way; we will never be us. In my heart, I believe that despite our recent separation, he was aware of my love for him and shared my hope that one day we would be as wonderful as we had been for the previous 47 years. I am certain of this, which gives me a little bit of solace.
Mandhira implored people to cherish their relationships and avoid prolonging conflicts. She urged anybody who has had a disagreement with a loved one—family member or friend—to make amends while there is still time, as she pondered the fragility of life. She stressed that life is fragile and that every day should be viewed as a gift, cautioning that unanswered questions might lead to nothing but regret. "I miss my dear brother, and it's a difficult truth to accept that I will never see him again in this life," she said. Although I know he is now with Dad and that we will all be reunited someday, it is not enough. I would do anything to see my bhaiya one last time and express my love for him.
The demise of Sunjay Kapur
Sunjay, 53, passed away on June 12 while participating in a polo match in England. Although initial reports said he had a heart attack during the game, later reports indicated that the cardiac arrest may have been brought on by an allergic response to a bee sting. However, the precise cause of death is still unknown. The cremation ceremony was held at the Lodhi Road Cremation Ground in Delhi on Thursday, and the prayer meet was held at the Taj Palace Hotel on Sunday.
Sunjay leaves behind his wife Priya Sachdev and their two children, Safira and Azarias. Sunjay had two children, Samaira and Kiaan, with his previous wife, Karisma Kapoor, prior to Priya. After 13 years of marriage, Karisma and Sunjay split up in 2016.
