Malayalam Film Producers to Mandate ‘No Drugs’ Affidavit Alongside Pay Contracts

Along with their compensation contract, the Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) has chosen to mandate that Mollywood actors and staff members sign a 'no drugs' affidavit. According to an OnManorama report, the KFPA is doing this to ensure that movie sets are drug-free.

The KFPA will take strong measures against drugs

The KFPA suggests requiring actors and technicians to sign a "no drugs" affidavit along with their salary agreement. This is scheduled to take place on June 26, which is International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The signer will be prohibited from using drugs by these affidavits, whether at the filming site or in their lodgings.

The KPFA has sent letters to FEFKA and AMMA in an effort to bring them on board. Before deciding whether to support this initiative, AMMA will debate it at its general body meeting. In the meanwhile, FEFKA has reportedly already agreed to co-sign it. They have been requested to give their opinion by June 24. If the proposal is accepted, everyone involved in filming, including performers and crew, will be obliged to sign the affidavit. They will be held responsible for any breach of the aforementioned agreement as well as any harm they cause to the producer.

Drugs and the Malayalam cinema industry

This follows Shine Tom Chacko's April arrest and subsequent release on bail for suspected drug usage. He ran away from the hotel in those days when the cops attempted to arrest him there. After using drugs, his co-star Vincy Aloshious also accused him of misconduct on the set. AMMA disciplined him for the incident.

The same month, directors Khalid Rahman and Ashraf Hamza were detained on charges of having narcotics. During a film shoot, producer Haseeb Malabar claimed that Sreenath Bhasi requested "stuff" such cannabis. Sandra Thomas has also made allegations in May that producers are allocating money for supplying drugs to celebrities while filming.
