Madhuri Dixit’s Early Struggles: Rejected for Being ‘Too Thin’

Several actors started out in the industry with failures, including Dev Anand and Amitabh Bachchan, but eventually went on to become huge stars. Madhuri Dixit is one example of an actress who had eight failures before finding success. Raza Murad, an actor, spoke frankly about Madhuri's early challenges in an interview with The Filmy Charcha, disclosing that at one point in her life, a playback singer turned down her marriage proposal.

Raza Murad remembers a playback vocalist refusing to wed Madhuri Dixit.

Raza used Amitabh Bachchan's experience in obtaining the part in Zanjeer following a string of flops to illustrate how important destiny is in the film industry. "She was doing insignificant films like Abodh and Awara Baap," he said, recalling Madhuri Dixit's similar experience. She went unnoticed and uncared for by anyone. She was at the lowest point in her career, so her parents made the decision to marry her. They forced her to meet a playback singer. He said, 'She's too thin,' as he glanced at her.

Raza recollected how Subhash Ghai rescued Madhuri Dixit's career.

He continued, "Sometime later, she was filming in Kashmir with Rajesh Khanna." Subhash Ghai was working there as well. Her hairdresser approached him and inquired about the movie she was filming. He was instantly taken with Madhuri's appearance when she introduced him to her. Because he had a good sense, he invited her to join him in Mumbai and gave her career a reboot. She had little choice but to get ready to pack up.

It took Madhuri a long time to become a superstar. Abodh, her debut film from 1984, was a box office failure and received negative reviews. Her subsequent releases, which included Awara Baap, Swati, Manav Hatya, Hifazat, Uttar Dakshin, Mohre, and Khatron Ke Khiladi, were all financial flops. Although Dayavan marked her first triumph, it was her roles in Tezaab and Ram Lakhan that made her famous. Following that, Madhuri became a true celebrity, and there was no turning back.

In the most recent installment of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Madhuri shared the screen with Vidya Balan, Kartik Aaryan, and Triptii Dimri in significant roles. The horror-comedy, directed by Anees Bazmee, garnered mixed-to-positive reviews from reviewers and grossed ₹389.28 crore globally. Her next role will be in Mrs. Deshpande, a psychological thriller series in which Madhuri plays a serial murderer. Nagesh Kukunoor is the director of the program, which is based on a French show. The project's specifics are still to be disclosed.
