Madhoo became a well-known actor after appearing in a number of successful movies, including Phool Aur Kaante and Roja. The actress, though, quit the business after marrying Anand Shah in 1999. Twelve years after her comeback, she is now involved in the film industry. Madhoo discussed her hiatus from acting in an interview with Lehren Retro.

Madhoo discusses her hiatus from the film industry.

“By 1997, I had begun to feel unhappy,” Madhoo remarked, recalling his time spent collaborating with all the A-listers in Bollywood. I felt like I wasn't performing well, and I had lost interest in my work. After working with genuine, realistic filmmakers in the South, it felt strange to go back to working with directors who would lie in movies and use a board to demonstrate that we are somewhere else. I grew depressed going to sets as an artist. Being on a film set, which I had previously wanted above anything else, began to annoy me.

Amitabh Bachchan's movie was turned down by Madhoo.

I consider myself "destiny's child," she said, adding that she turned down a movie with Amitabh Bachchan for her wedding. I had what is now called manifestation back then. I have experienced the truth of my strongest emotions. Love came into my life just as I came to the conclusion that I no longer wanted to pursue a career in the film industry. I got married and gave up acting altogether. I was once enticed, and I landed a significant role with Amitabh Bachchan, which ultimately went to Soundarya. I informed my secretary that I didn't want to get married since the date had been set. I stood my ground, even when he begged me to think again.

Sooryavansham, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Soundarya, was the title of the movie, which was released in 1999. Big B played two roles in the movie, co-starring with Jayasudha, Rachna Banerjee, Anupam Kher, and Kader Khan. Although it was a flop at the box office, it eventually developed a cult following.
