While every Friday will be a busy day for the film fraternity with releases lined up one after the other, this Friday was different. Many Tamil film personalities exercised their right to vote, as the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections began on Friday. Voters of the 39 seats of Tamil Nadu, many Tamil film celebrities were spotted earlier in the day, who cast their votes in respective constituencies' polling booths. The results to the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on June 4.

Tamil Nadu is no stranger to entwining its politics and cinema. While history has seen enough and more evidences of actors and writers shifting gears into full time politicians, some of them include MG Ramachandran, M Karunanidhi, J Jayalalitha to latest being Kamal Haasan. Udhayanidhi Stalin, and Vijay.

Tami Nadu votes

With social media buzzing with photos of celebrities casting their votes, actor Ajith Kumar who is currently working in Vidaa Muyachi, was spotted as early as 6.40 am to cast his vote in the Thiruvanmiyur booth in Chennai. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth, who once flirted with the idea of entering politics, cast his vote at Stella Maris college earlier in the day before 8 am. Clad in white shirt and pants, the actor cast his vote amid much fanfare.

Actor Dhanush, who arrived in his car to the polling booth, cast his vote in St Francis Xavier School, TTK road in Chennai, while Sivakarthikeyan along with his wife Arthi, director Vetrimaaran and others stood in the respective polling booth lines before casting their votes. Vijay Sethupathi exercised his democratic right and cast his vote for the Lok Sabha elections and even interacted with the public nearby. Many celebrities took to their social media handles after casting their votes, urging the public to do the same.

Politically charged film fraternity

Tamil film industry has been in close quarters with politics for decades now. It is to be noted that actor-politician Kamal Haasan has joined forces with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and been campaigning for last few months. Meanwhile, Vijay has also expressed his interest in politics and floated his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
