'Masaan': A Lesson in Raw Reality

Vicky Kaushal chose Masaan, the 2015 social drama that marked his first leading role, as the cinematic experience he hopes to share with his son. He acknowledged that the film is "a hard film to watch," suggesting it would be shown "maybe later on, not too early on in his life."

His reasoning, however, speaks volumes about the film's artistic and life-affirming power. He explained, “It's a nice film... But it shows life as life is.”

Masaan, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, is a critically acclaimed movie set against the backdrop of Varanasi, exploring the interconnected lives of individuals grappling with death, life's harsh truths, and societal stigma. Kaushal played the role of Deepak Kumar, a civil engineering student from a low-caste family working at the cremation ghats.
