With the movie Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, filmmaker Laxman Utekar achieved success lately. Laxman responded to Anurag Kashyap's choice to quit Bollywood and also mocked his critique of Hindi cinema in a recent interview with Mama's Couch.

In response to filmmakers who said that viewers didn't comprehend their work, Laxman advised them to refrain from producing such movies in the first place. He urged them to publish a book about their tale rather than avoid criticism. Additionally, he reminded these filmmakers that nobody had asked them to use their movies to start a revolution or alter the government, and he advised them to focus on pleasing the audience rather than acting like 'gyanis.'

Anurag Kashyap leaving Bollywood, according to Laxman Utekar

"Chale jao chod kar, beshak chale jao, jisko nahi rehna, chale jao koi zabadasti nahi kar raha hai," Laxman then replied to Anurag Kashyap's choice to leave Bollywood. You see, this business demands that you be both mentally and creatively content before you can produce a fantastic movie. How can you create a great film if you don't want to live here? It's better for you to leave since no one is making you remain. If you're not in a creative state of mind, there's no use in pushing yourself because you can't put your heart into it. You can only produce films if you're in a creative state of mind. You should go."

Additionally, he responded to Anurag's assertion that viewers lack the sensitivity to appreciate the kind of films he produces by saying, "Woh galat bol rahe hai jab woh kehte hai ki audience ko sensibilities nahi hai unki film accept karne ki… balki unki sensibility nahi hai audience ka taste accept karne ki." How can one claim that movies are dying when they currently generate 700–800 crore in revenue? Look at the collections for Pushpa, RRR, and Baahubali; they totaled 1200 crores. Or the collection of Chhaava is worth ₹800 crore. Since you are stuck there, you need to change your sensibility. When films are making more than ₹1000 crore in sales, how can one assert that cinema is dying? You should change your sensibilities rather than urging the audience to do so.

He also emphasized that cinema changes every three years and that directors must be adaptable rather than stuck to a single method. He stressed that movies should at least appeal to middle- and working-class viewers who attend theaters to see them.

What Anurag Kashyap stated

In an interview with The Hindu earlier, Anurag voiced his displeasure with Hindi movies and stated, "I want to stay away from film people. The sector has gotten excessively poisonous. Everyone is trying to produce the next ₹500 or ₹800 crore picture, which is an unattainable objective. There is no more creativity. In the same conversation, Anurag also stated that he has relocated outside of Mumbai and is now attempting to make a name for himself in the South.

In the meanwhile, Laxman's Chhaava became a huge box office hit. The movie, which stars Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Rashmika Mandanna as Maharani Yasubai, and Akshaye Khanna as Emperor Aurangzeb, made ₹807 crore worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Bollywood film of the year.
