LK Dutta Passes Away: Daughter Lara Dutta Shares Moving Tribute

With a lengthy, poignant letter and unforgettable photos, Lara Dutta remembered her late father, retired wing commander L K Dutta. In the note she shared on her social media account, Lara stated that her father had battled valiantly against an illness that had weakened him over the previous few months. At the age of 84, he passed away in Mumbai on May 31.

In remembrance of her deceased father, Lara writes a sincere message.

Lara shared two images to her Instagram account on Wednesday. One of the images shows Lara and her father holding hands and dancing, sharing one of the most lovely times of their relationship.

On the 31st of May, my amazing, courageous, fighting father passed away peacefully into the good night, as Lara put it in the letter. In recent months, he battled relentlessly against an illness that had worn him down. He showed an unwavering bravery and determination to overcome the odds, which at times went against all reason, and he endured pain with the stoicism of a battle-hardened warrior. He completely transformed my view of the body's ability to fail or give in to an unavoidable conclusion.

Lara writes about beautiful memories they shared

"Some moments with my father are etched into my bones forever... my dad hoisting a 3-year-old me up on his shoulders to look at the stars at night and call out all the constellations... the feet that I stood on as a 5-year-old to learn to waltz... the hand that I held as I scampered as fast as I could beside him to match his stride as we walked through eucalyptus groves and planned how I would study under Carl Sagan... the lap I sat on while I air played an imaginary piano to the sound of his favorite Richard Clayderman tape..."

The way Lara's father influenced her character

The actress continues by describing how she came to understand the significant part her father had in molding her character and maintaining her head up, even during the toughest moments.

"From my father, I learned how to debate, argue, negotiate, reason, and impress... I also learned to accept my responsibilities, sometimes stoically, and maintain my head held high even when things were tough... I learned to enjoy a bag of potato chips and a tutti frutti ice cream because I knew it came with a scooter ride just for the two of us," she said.

I learned to be brave, I learned to be fearless, I learned to stand up for myself and for others, I learned to make a good joke, even at my own expense, I learned to try and be selfless—I learned it all from him. I also know that this is not the end. Regardless of whether we are physically here or not, my hand is in his as we dance a waltz together somewhere, on some plane, in some dimension, in some alternate reality. I have your heart, Dad; I keep it in my heart, Lara concluded.

The reactions of pals in the film community

Lara's letter struck a chord with her industry colleagues. "The BEST Man. Will always carry him in my heart," wrote actress Dia Mirza.

"I have so many wonderful memories of dear, darling Uncle Handsome with his glorious moustache… Dad and Uncle sipping their whiskies in RSAOI Bangalore such cherished images that bring warmth and comfort," Celina Jaitley remarked. To a fantastic dad and a brave warrior. May he find peace among the bravest of the brave. Biyars and the entire family, my love. OM SHANTI".

“So much love ❤️,” said Soha Ali Khan. “Deepest condolences Lara,” wrote Lisa Ray.
