Konkona Sen Sharma Highlights ‘Motherhood Penalty’ Faced by Working Moms in Film Industry

Anurag Basu's Metro In Dino will be released soon, and actress Konkona Sen Sharma is getting ready for it. The actor discussed her perspective on achieving a work-life balance in the industry and what has to alter in an interview with Firstpost.
What Konkona stated
"I sincerely want to say that there is a certain motherhood penalty in any industry in today's day and age, which happens," Konkona stated during the interview. The motherhood penalty and the fatherhood premium are its names. Since fathers get increasingly older and have children, they also make more money. However, having a child causes a financial setback for women because they cannot engage in society in the way that is expected or in the way that office work necessitates.
Governments must, in a way, modify laws for working mothers
"Now what's going to happen ultimately is that women are not incentivized to have children at all because it's becoming more and more difficult," she continued. It's becoming increasingly challenging to balance being a good mother and engaging in the working world. Therefore, I think that sooner or later, the governments will have to somewhat modify their policies in favor of working women. If not, it will not occur.
In 2010, Ranvir Shorey and Konkona got married. In 2015, they split up, and in 2020, they got divorced. Haroon is their son.
The cast of Metro In Dino includes Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pankaj Tripathi, Neena Gupta, and Anupam Kher. The movie is slated to be released on July 4.
