Mammootty, Asif Ali, and Fahadh Faasil, all Malayalam actors, are among the leading candidates. A Kerala State Film Award would be the prize for Mammootty if he wins. However, if Asif Ali wins the prestigious prize, it would be his first ever.

Because of his outstanding performance as Kodumon Potti Bramayugam, admirers are optimistic that Mammootty might take home the prize. In Rahul Sadasivan's folktale horror thriller, the seasoned actor shed his megastar persona and evolved into an old patriarch. The film was well received by audiences and critics alike. In 2022, he won the prize for his portrayal of the lead character in director Lijo Jose Pellissery's film Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. His performance in the groundbreaking film Kaathal – The Core earned him a nomination for the prize in 2023 as well.

In contrast, Asif Ali has not yet been awarded a Kerala State Film Award. He starred in fantastic films in 2024, including Thalavan and Kishkindha Kaandam.
