According to him, the film is nothing more than “a propaganda piece” that paints a misleading picture of the state and its people, particularly targeting the Muslim community under the pretext of highlighting radicalisation.

Vijayan said, “The National Film Awards have always been regarded as a recognition of artistic excellence and cultural integrity. However, honouring a film that has been widely criticised for its communal undertones and fabricated claims tarnishes the image and moral credibility of this esteemed institution.”

The Kerala Story has been surrounded by controversy since its trailer launch, where it claimed that thousands of women from Kerala were forcibly converted and recruited into terrorist organisations.
