4 months ago | 5 Views
A video from a grievance redressal meeting in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, has drawn criticism for former actor and now politician Kangana Ranaut. The video shows her ignoring an elderly man's plea for assistance, which drew a lot of flak on social media.
Just a few days after Kangana voiced her unhappiness with her political career, the film was released.
The video has made Kangana the center of attention
The footage, which has been shared on social media, including Reddit, shows Kangana at a grievance redressal meeting. In the video, an elderly man sits at Kangana's feet, begging her to assist him in finding a solution to his problems.
"Yeh mukhya mantri ke jo kaam hai woh toh aap unko hi bata sakte hain (You can tell this to the Chief Minister) ... Mujhe mukhya mantri ke kaam batake (Why tell me things that only a Chief Minister can do)," Kangana is seen saying. The older man then informs Kangana that she can bring up the topic in parliament. Kangana then promises to introduce him to Union Minister of Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar.
Someone tries to step in and lead the old guy away at one moment during the video. But Kangana is seen ignoring him and instead choosing to keep up the talk with the guy.
Kangana receives criticism
The video has drawn a lot of criticism on social media, with many people calling Kangana's reaction callous. Some people have criticized her for having the old man sit at her feet rather than next to her.
"Actress becomes politician and realizes the job is harder than she expected," one commenter wrote, while another said, "Why to make this old man sit on the ground?"
One said, "Shame on her, old man sitting in her feet." "If she couldn't handle the responsibility that comes with politics, why did she get into it?" remarked another social media user.
One said, "Shameless woman." "This Is What Happens When Bollywood Actress becomes a Politician, eg Hema Malini, smriti irani, Now Kangana Ranaut," another social media user said.
One user said, "Elderly man sitting at her feet...even her team did not offer a chair..to sit," while another wrote, "Kangana is unfit for politics." “It's a shame to see her making old man of her grandfather age to sit in front of feet to ask for help whereas she refused saying it's not her dept or concern then for what reasons she is representing the people,” one author wrote.
Kangana's political career
In a podcast on the Atman in Ravi (AIR) YouTube channel, Kangana discussed her political career. After being given an offer, which led her to try her hand at politics, Kangana said that she joined the BJP in March 2024.
“I’m getting a hang of it,” Kangana responded when asked if she was enjoying it. I wouldn't claim that I enjoy politics. It's a very different kind of work, more akin to social service. My history is different. I've never considered helping others.
"I have fought for women's rights, but that's different... Someone's naali (drain) is broken, and I'm like, 'But I am an MP and these people are coming to me with panchayat-level problems'." They don't give a damn. They approach you with issues like MLAs and dilapidated roads when they see you, and I tell them that it's a state government matter, and they respond, "You have money, you use your own money," she said.
