Thug Life is a highly anticipated Tamil movie that features a stellar cast of actors such Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan, Trisha, and others. The movie's producers have been working hard to promote it in anticipation of its release on June 5. It is the reunion of Mani Ratnam and the star of Papanasam 38 years after the release of the groundbreaking 1987 movie Nayakan.

The storyline of Thug Life has now been made public, according to a few social media postings. The film is supposed to take place in the criminal underworld, where Kamal Haasan will play Sakthivel, a mafia boss. They raise Amaran, a little kid they save from a police shootout with their brother (to be played by Simbu), as their own. However, years later, everything changes when an assassination attempt is made on Sakthivel and all fingers point to the adult Amaran as Sakthivel starts to seek revenge. The debut collaboration between the Vaanam actor and Kamal Haasan is in Thug Life.

The post-theatrical streaming rights of Thug Life have been bagged by Netflix. The film will stream after eight weeks of theatrical release. Produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies, the film has music by AR Rahman who has worked with Mani Ratnam in films like Roja and Dil Se. It also features Joju George, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami and others.
