The renowned Dostoevsky Star Award was given to Javed Akhtar, a writer and lyricist. The news was announced by actress Shabana Azmi on her Instagram page on Friday. Javed was selected for the distinction "in recognition of his remarkable influence on cultural heritage and literary discourse."

Javed was shown in a photo that Shabana posted as he accepted the prize. "Javed Akhtar receives the Dostoevsky Star Award, another significant honor!" the caption said. In recognition of his outstanding impact on literary heritage and cultural discourse, the Russian House is really proud this year to present the distinguished poet, lyricist, and public intellectual Mr. Javed Akhtar with this award.

In his decades as a lyricist, poet, and screenwriter, Javed has received several honors and is recognized as one of the best screenwriters in the history of Indian film. He has received five National Film Awards for Best Lyrics. In 1999 and 2007, the Indian government also bestowed the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan upon him, respectively. Later, his poetry collection Lava earned him the Sahitya Akademi Award for Urdu, India's second most prestigious literary prize. In 2020, he also became the only Indian to win the renowned Richard Dawkins Prize.

In newsrooms, literary festivals, on X (formerly Twitter), and elsewhere, Javed frequently expresses his views on communism in society, secularism, government policies, and other social and political matters.
