The renowned Dostoevsky Star Award was given to Javed Akhtar, a writer and lyricist. The news was announced by actress Shabana Azmi on her Instagram page on Friday. Javed was selected for the distinction "in recognition of his remarkable influence on cultural heritage and literary discourse."

In his decades as a lyricist, poet, and screenwriter, Javed has received several honors and is recognized as one of the best screenwriters in the history of Indian film. He has received five National Film Awards for Best Lyrics. In 1999 and 2007, the Indian government also bestowed the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan upon him, respectively. Later, his poetry collection Lava earned him the Sahitya Akademi Award for Urdu, India's second most prestigious literary prize. In 2020, he also became the only Indian to win the renowned Richard Dawkins Prize.
