Janhvi Kapoor Condemns Thane Assault Incident, Says ‘Shame on Us’

After the receptionist at a private hospital in Maharashtra refused to allow him into the doctor's clinic without an appointment, the actor Janhvi Kapoor responded to a viral video of a man allegedly physically attacking the receptionist. The incident was criticized by the performer, who stated that such conduct should be "more aggressively" denounced.

What is known about the movie?

The incident was captured on video, which has become popular on social media. The video shows the man, named Gokul Jha, approaching the 25-year-old receptionist in a private hospital in Kalyan and kicking her. He keeps dragging and pulling the woman by her hair, slamming her on the floor, despite attempts from other bystanders to pull him away.

The validity of this film could not be determined by HT.com on its own. According to a police officer, the FIR was filed under the appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for assault, using offensive language, and outraging the modesty of a woman, all in response to the woman's complaint.

Later, fresh evidence revealed that the receptionist struck Jha's sister-in-law just before the attack. The validity of this video could not, however, be independently verified by HT.com.

Kapoor, Janhvi, responds

Janhvi used Instagram to vehemently denounce the event and call for more severe repercussions for those who were accountable.

The actor posted a piece on the incident with the caption, "This guy needs to be in jail." What kind of upbringing leads one to believe that these acts are acceptable and that they may raise their hand at someone like this? Why do people believe that this conduct is acceptable?

"Given that you are aware of how your brain functions, how can you live with yourself? It's such a pity. And shame on us for not dealing with and punishing this conduct more harshly. She continued, "This is inexcusable."

During the incident, police arrested his brother Ranjit and other relatives who were there at the hospital. The receptionist has significant wounds and is being treated at a hospital in Dombivli. Jha was placed in police custody for two days by the Kalyan District and Sessions Court on Wednesday.

Janhvi feels there is no excuse for such behaviour.

Future endeavors for Janhvi Kapoor

Janhavi has been quite busy with work, though. Her next movie, Homebound, which also features Vishal Jethwa and Ishaan Khatter, will be shown at the renowned Toronto International Film Festival in 2025. Earlier this year, Neeraj Ghaywan's movie also went to the Cannes Film Festival, where it garnered a nine-minute standing ovation.

Homebound is about two childhood pals from a tiny North Indian town who pursue a career in the police force in the hopes of gaining the respect that has been withheld from them for so long. As they get closer to their goal, however, growing despair puts the relationship that binds them in jeopardy.

Additionally, Janhvi will co-star with Sidharth Malhotra in the love comedy Param Sundari, which is set in Kerala's colorful environment. She also stars with Varun Dhawan in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. The movie, which was initially scheduled for a September 2025 release, is now scheduled to open in theaters on October 2.
