The upcoming Bollywood rom-com Param Sundari, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra, has ignited conversations among fans and critics alike. In a candid interview on Mirchi Plus, Janhvi and Sidharth shared their thoughts on the ongoing comparisons. Sidharth expressed enthusiasm, calling it a “great thing” and a “compliment” to be compared with such a legendary film. “Chennai Express came out 10 years ago, and definitely these films are not the same,” he explained.

Janhvi took the conversation deeper, highlighting the diversity within South India itself. “Chennai Express is an iconic movie, yes, and Deepika Padukone played a Tamilian in the film,” Janhvi said. “I play a half-Tamilian, half-Malayali girl, which shows the generalization people make when comparing the two films.” She clarified that her character is from Kerala, reminding audiences that “not all people from the South can be grouped together.” According to her, Param Sundari represents a “different milieu altogether” and is far from repetitive or a remake.

Different Stories, Different Flavours

Both actors pointed out that films exploring the nuances of cross-cultural romance have appeared before, including 2 States — another popular film that tells a North-South love story but with its unique take. Janhvi emphasized that such films aren’t released every year, indicating that Param Sundari offers a fresh approach rather than riding on the coattails of previous hits.

She also praised Chennai Express as an iconic film with legendary characters and actors, suggesting that comparisons should not diminish either movie’s individual merit.

What to Expect from Param Sundari

Directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Maddock Films, Param Sundari revolves around the romance between a North Indian man from Delhi and a South Indian woman from Kerala. Besides Janhvi and Sidharth, the film features Rajeev Khandelwal and Aakash Dahiya in pivotal roles. Set against the backdrop of cultural contrasts and heartfelt moments, the film is slated for release on August 29.
