When she was only 10 years old, the actor and comedian Jamie Lever experienced trauma from inappropriate men. Jamie discussed in an interview with Hauterrfly about the childhood experiences that made her wary of men until she was well into adulthood.

In the interview, Jamie remembered how her driver once picked her up from school and waited outside for her brother (Jessey) to emerge. He told me to wait in the car. I was talking with a pal in the backseat. A strange man approached, stood behind her at the window, flashed me, and began masturbating. I was completely stunned to see a male component for the first time. I didn't know what was going on. I was just a kid, probably between 10 and 12. I was shaking because I believed he would open the door and take action, she said.

Jamie recalls closing the door and acting as if he wasn't there, which ultimately caused him to go. She also said that the conductor of her school bus would touch her inappropriately. "Our school bus conductor was really inappropriate; he would touch us." Sometimes, I feel as if it's all a nightmare that I've repressed. Even though his job is to safeguard children, he had a twisted mind. I became so reclusive that I didn't allow men into my life. I didn't go on a date until I was in my 20s, after I had relocated outside of the country," she stated. The performer also admitted that she never spoke about these events to her parents, Johnny Lever and Sujatha, because she didn't understand what was going on.
