Hansal Mehta Stands Firm on Tribute, Calls Out Critics for Lack of Decency

After being called a narcissist on social media for mentioning his own movie while honoring his late friend and actor Mukul Dev, director Hansal Mehta is retaliating. Hansal was offended by the criticism and said that he didn't need to promote a movie that was made seven years ago. He also questioned why his actions were being misrepresented.
Hansal makes a defense.
In a post on social media, Hansal's homage to Mukul Dev was criticized by a user who accused him of "hyping" his film Omertà. On X, formerly known as Twitter, he answered the same question.
“Hansal Mehta is such a narcissist," the remark said. Through his words, he is still promoting himself and his film even here. And why would you say that he was unhappy in himself and everything else after Mukul Dev died?
Hansal was irritated by that, so he responded by advising folks not to draw conclusions quickly and to rather comprehend the purpose behind it.
In response, Hansal said, "Grief manifests itself in memories, in stories, in guilt, in unfinished conversations when a buddy dies." I gave mine with love and honesty. You are reading narcissism into it, which speaks more about your perspective than my purpose.
“Furthermore, there is no need for me to promote a movie that was produced more than seven years ago. That movie was Mukul's fantasy. He was genuinely proud of it. He was pleased with his credit for it. Perhaps you should check the definitions of grief and decency if storytelling is narcissism, he said.
Hansal posted a heartfelt tribute on social media after Mukul Dev passed away in May. When the movie was ultimately produced, Mukul gave Hansal Mehta the plot for Omertà back in 2003, and Hansal Mehta wrote in his blog about how delighted and proud he was to see his name in the writing credits.
"Additionally, he was a talented author. In 2003, he told me the tale of Omertà. I recall the delight in his voice when the movie was finally finished, the pride he took in seeing it with festival crowds, and the contagious enthusiasm when his name appeared in the writing credits... Honored. Verified. All I wish is that we had done more together, Hansal said then.
