Actor Brad Pitt's new movie F1 has been reviewed by filmmaker Hansal Mehta, who has discussed in detail the aspects of the film that have and have not been successful. On Monday morning, Hansal took to X (previously Twitter) to laud Brad Pitt, writing that "there's something moving about watching a star who knows how to carry silence and wear fatigue with grace." Hansal also stated that "the treatment of the supporting cast" in the movie "definitely doesn’t work."

"My thoughts on F1," Hansal said, adding that despite the "familiar screenwriting," F1 is still effective "in parts." All the well-known screenwriting tropes from the underdog sportsperson playbook are in F1: the tortured history, the divided team, the old vs. young dynamic, and the predictable path from rock bottom to redemption. The framework is almost audible beneath the surface.
In F1, Hansal discusses what works
"And yet, despite all that, it works - at least in part. The racing scenes are excitingly choreographed, filmed with a kinetic accuracy that momentarily distracts from the cliché. The movie treats its aging star with near-reverence, and deservedly so. "There's something moving about seeing a star who knows how to maintain silence and bear weariness with grace," he continued.
According to Hansal, Javier Bardem's role was not given enough respect by F1
The movie has "same drug, different packaging," according to Hansal. The handling of its supporting cast is what really doesn't work. Consider Javier Bardem, an actor with the ability to roar, and lower him to one of the most uninspired character representations in recent history. Truly a waste. Even though F1 employed a lot of stale cliches and narrative shortcuts, the audience was mostly riveted by the spectacle and willing to get carried away by it. The clichés didn't seem to matter for some reason. The audience demanded that the movie and the hit be delivered. He continued, "The high still lands, even though the packaging for the same drug is different."
Regarding Formula One
The movie, which Joseph Kosinski directed, follows Sonny Hayes, a seasoned Formula One driver portrayed by Brad, as he rejoins the sport after a 30-year absence. Despite being a great and promising driver, his career came to an abrupt end because of a serious accident. Brad's persona, Sonny, is brought back into the Formula One scene in the movie by his old teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), who is now the owner of a floundering F1 team.
Sonny struggles with difficulties both on and off the track as he tries to assist the squad in staging a comeback, such as coming to terms with his history. Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Damson Idris, and other actors appear in F1 as well.
