A Festive Twist on the Iconic Sitcom Set

Ganesh Chaturthi has always been celebrated with grandeur in Mumbai, but this year brought something truly extraordinary. For the first time ever, ‘Mumbai Cha Sheth’, a beloved avatar of Ganpati Bappa, rode through the city streets in a specially designed open double-decker bus, blessing devotees along the way. The highlight of this unique journey was the divine stop at the sets of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), India’s longest-running sitcom and a household favourite.

The cast and crew of the show came together as one big family, welcoming Bappa into the recreated Gokuldham Society with immense joy, devotion, and a sense of unity.

Devotion and Laughter at Gokuldham Society

The TMKOC family performed a heartfelt aarti, filling the atmosphere with chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya.” Emotions ran high as everyone sought blessings for good health, peace, and prosperity.

Show producer Asit Modi, known for weaving social and cultural themes into the show, offered a special prayer that touched both fans and the team: the much-awaited return of Daya Bhabhi. Smiling as he spoke, Asit Modi acknowledged how her absence has been deeply felt by fans, and he expressed hope that Bappa would answer this long-standing wish.

Adding a light-hearted moment, actor Dilip Joshi, who essays the famous role of Jethalal, joked about sharing personal wishes: “How can we share our private problems on live television? We’ve whispered them into Bappa’s vehicle—the mouse’s ear. He will surely listen!” His humour set the tone for a celebration that was reverent but still held the charm TMKOC fans love.

The Unique Moving Ganpati Experience

This year’s eye-catching celebration of Mumbai Cha Sheth was part of a special initiative titled Hijack 2.0, curated by Keyur Seth of Red Cherry Entertainment. The initiative turned heads across the city as Bappa travelled through Mumbai’s neighbourhoods on India’s first-ever Ganesh open double-decker bus, spreading blessings everywhere.

The fresh, innovative approach sought to combine Mumbai’s lively street culture with the spiritual essence of Ganesh Chaturthi. This fusion drew countless devotees, celebrities, and onlookers, making it one of the most talked-about celebrations of the year.

Beyond the TMKOC family, several distinguished personalities also participated in the darshan of Mumbai Cha Sheth. Celebrities like Mahesh Manjrekar, Sunil Gavaskar, choreographer Ganesh Acharya, and actress Ankita Dave joined the celebrations, paying their respects and expressing admiration for the unique concept. Their presence elevated the festive fervour, blending Mumbai’s cultural, spiritual, and entertainment worlds into a single vibrant experience.
