From Richa Chadha to Mouni Roy: Puneet Gupta Reveals the Inspiration Behind Star-Studded Wedding Invites

The wedding invitation is where the tale actually starts, while all aspects of a celebrity wedding, including the attire and decor, garner attention. When it comes to their wedding invitations, Bollywood celebrities treat them as if they were works of art.
Puneet Gupta, the designer and creator of Puneet Gupta Invitations, discussed the creative process and personal anecdotes behind creating custom wedding invitations for celebrities such as Richa Chadha, Randeep Hooda, Mouni Roy, and others in an interview with a lifestyle magazine.
Puneet disclosed that over the years, he has created personalized wedding invitations for the crème de la crème, including Ali Fazal, Richa Chadha, Rana Daggubati, Miheeka, Randeep Hooda, Lin Laishram, and TV stars Bharti Singh, Gauhar Khan, Shama Sikander, Dipika Kakkar, Shankar Mahadevan, Bharti Singh, and Poonam Sinha.
The Bollywood-inspired matchbox invitation from Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal
Regarding Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal's wedding invitation, Puneet said, "One recent favorite is the matchbox-style invitation for Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha, which is a playful but deeply personal nod to 1980s Bollywood, with hand-painted motifs and the tongue-in-cheek tagline 'Couple Matches Made in Heaven'." I viewed their wedding as a nostalgic movie set, with each invitation serving as a little collectible that generated excitement in the days leading up to the ceremony.
The horseshoe-lucky wedding invitations for Lin Laishram and Randeep Hooda
Puneet shared the tale behind Randeep Hooda and Lin Laishram's wedding stationery, saying, "Randeep and Lin had a small, traditional Meitei ceremony in Imphal and a royal reception in Mumbai. They wanted their invitation to reflect that cultural depth, something rooted in tradition yet elegant."
"The outcome was a stunning, hand-painted invitation on paper with dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks, and floral motifs, which visually evoked warmth, nature, and the couple's real love story," he continued. However, the genuine standout was a real horseshoe attached to each invitation, which served as an unusual, physical representation of the couple's good fortune and safety throughout their relationship. It was our manner of grounding the invitation in tradition and sincere symbolism, reflecting our faith in old-world appeal.
"We created a parallel aesthetic, neutral, hand-drawn lotus and horseshoe motifs, minimalistic typography, and a touch of organic charm for our Mumbai reception," Puneet said. Although it was deeply personal, it was also grounded in tradition.
The poetic emerald-green diary invite of Shoaib Ibrahim and Dipika Kakar
The wedding invitation for Shoaib Ibrahim and Dipika Kakar was, according to Puneet, designed with Dipika's passion for poetry in mind: "For Shoaib and Dipika, we created an emerald-green 'diary', a narrative-driven invitation reflecting Dipika's love for poetry." Like a cherished scrapbook of their relationship, it unfolded with their initials stamped on the gold tissue. We brought them what they wanted—something new, emotionally moving, and completely unique—by incorporating her poetic voice into the invitation.
The exquisite and distinctive wedding stationery of Mouni Roy
Puneet also discussed his experience collaborating with Mouni Roy. “Although my experience collaborating with Mouni Roy was also enjoyable, her wedding stationery took a very different shape, but the hearts were in sync,” he stated. Whether it's an immersive trunk, hand-pressed flowers, or a memento box, each famous pair encourages me to push the limits. What remains constant: authenticity and attention to detail in every stitch and ink trace.
Global designs and weddings at your destination
Regarding destination weddings, Puneet stated, "Destination weddings get special treatment: for a Goa wedding, we designed a charming mini-suitcase trimmed in hot-pink raw silk, lined with real shells and pearls, each suitcase insert revealed a different event, from Bollywood nights to pool parties." Every invitation becomes a memento thanks to the tangible layers, textures, and little keepsakes.
Additionally, he explained how he has brought Indian wedding invitations to the rest of the world: "On the international stage, I have also produced invitations like the Mughal-peacock velvet trunk for a Rajasthan wedding, and even virtual-reality-enabled boxes sent from Bahrain, with VR headsets that played destination highlights, truly extending the invite into an immersive experience."
“Designing celebrity invites is about storytelling, not glitz, for me. Each aspect, whether it be heirloom materials, holographic components, immersive packaging, or humorous stories, is chosen to reflect the couple's personality and experiences. "These invitations are more than just bits of paper; they are tactile love letters, collectible art, and memory-keepers," Puneet said in closing.
