Mukesh Kumar Singh is riding high after the success of the devotional film Kannappa. He shared how the project found him and credits divine help for everything. Singh called the opportunity a miracle and told how Lord Shiva brought the film into his life.

When asked about landing such a big project, Singh said it was all thanks to Lord Shiva. He recalled that in 2015, Vishnu Manchu and Mohan Babu planned to make Kannappa. On January 1, 2015, Singh was visiting the Shrikalahasti Temple, the story’s setting. He feels that at that moment, Lord Shiva decided he should direct this film. Singh believes it’s a miracle since there’s no clear link between him and the project otherwise.

He also revealed that directing this film wasn’t what he initially expected. Vishnu Manchu had been thinking about hiring international directors. Singh said Vishnu’s recent movies hadn’t done well, and he wasn’t keen on working with big-name directors. In fact, Vishnu even considered Hollywood directors for the scale of the story, and he had reached out to a few.

The turning point came during the COVID-19 lockdown. Singh explained that Mohan Babu was watching Mahabharata, a popular mythological series he co-directed. After seeing it, Babu wanted to know who made it. Their team contacted Singh, and he told them he co-directed the series with two others. Later, another director reached out to him, and they spoke.

Then, things got really unexpected. Singh said Anoop Singh Thakur, who played Dhritarashtra in the series and worked with Vishnu in Achari America Yatra, told him Vishnu wanted to talk. Soon after, Singh got a call from Vishnu. They discussed the film, and Vishnu asked him to come to Hyderabad. Singh didn’t even know what the movie was about yet.

His final choice came after a meeting with Mohan Babu. Babu was back from abroad and invited Singh over. They talked at length about the characters, scenes, and movies. Babu then called Vishnu and made it official. Singh felt honored that Mohan Babu trusted him enough to give him such a big role. He says he’s grateful for that trust.

The film, directed by Singh and written by Vishnu Manchu, is based on the legend of Kannappa. It tells a story of a tribal fighter who starts as an atheist but becomes a devoted follower of Lord Shiva. The movie was produced by Mohan Babu and stars Vishnu Manchu. It also features Mohanlal, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal, and Preity Mukundhan.

Set in a mythological world, Kannappa isn’t just a movie. Singh calls it a journey about faith, fate, and how divine forces come together.
