Dileep Explains Success of ‘Prince and Family’: ‘Young Stars Can Repeat Roles, But…’

A hit has been a long time coming for Dileep, the suspect in the actress kidnapping and assault case. Despite numerous post-pandemic releases, including high-budget projects like Bandra, his most recent movie, Prince and Family, is likely the only one that has connected with viewers.

Prince and Family, which is now playing in theaters, will be available on ZEE5 starting June 20.

In a solo interview with an online outlet, the actor discusses the film's reception. The film, which stars Johny Antony and Dhyan Sreenivasan, is directed by Binto Stephen.

Dileep on the Prince and Family's Success

"I'm obviously overjoyed. "When Pavi Caretaker was released, we didn't get a lot of theatres," Dileep says. "Additionally, there's a widespread belief that discourages people from going to see my films in theatres." I think this movie has altered that. In addition to being a commercial film, it tackles an important topic: the impact of social media on our lives. I believe that is what resonated with the viewers.

The actor further claims that Prince and Family "worked in theatres purely because of mouth publicity." He continues, "I could see that response in theatre visits."

Dileep responds, "That's an unfair comparison," when asked how much a fanbase affects the success of his films and how it differs from that of younger actors. It's similar to wanting old automobiles off the street when new models come out. Usually, that isn't a workable answer. Older automobiles will operate provided they are in decent condition. Similarly, veteran performers will succeed when they have excellent roles in quality films. I wish I could continue to land such excellent parts.

Dileep discusses the difficulties encountered by actors like Mohanlal and Mammootty.

Dileep further elaborates on the difficulties faced by actors like Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Suresh Gopi from his generation and those before it. "I've been acting for 30 years, and the only reason I've been able to stay relevant is because of the roles I've played. The crowd is ready to accept young performers repeating a role they have previously played, but when veteran actors do the same, they are harsh, highlighting the repetition and asking them to try something different. That's the obstacle we encounter. He says, "At the same time, when there is something interesting that we offer through our movies, the same audience is extremely supportive of that - the success of Prince and Family and Thudarum for Lalettan (Mohanlal) is proof of that."
