Anant Ambani, the son of India's richest billionaire, Mukesh Ambani, and his wife Nita Ambani, wed Radhika Merchant on July 12, 2024, in Mumbai. The wedding was a lavish event, encompassing numerous extravagant celebrations in both India and Europe, featuring opulent attire and jewelry, along with performances by renowned Indian and international artists such as Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Justin Bieber.

In case you were unaware, Preston Bailey, a distinguished event designer celebrated for his luxurious wedding creations, played a key role in orchestrating Anant and Radhika's wedding, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal dated June 18.

High Fees for Musicians at Weddings

According to insiders, including Preston, 'an event designer who has organized weddings for figures like Ivanka Trump and last year’s Ambani wedding', the report highlighted how affluent individuals have been willing to pay substantial sums to secure musicians for wedding events. It was noted that Canadian artist Justin Bieber 'reportedly received $10 million for his performance at the Ambani wedding', with the statement that 'through a representative, Justin Bieber chose not to comment'.

“Even DJs command fees of a million dollars,” Preston remarked in the report, which indicated that 'high-profile DJs like Gryffin and Martin Solveig are increasingly sought after, as couples aspire to transform the wedding afterparty into an Ibiza-style nightclub experience.'

Ambani wedding designer planned Ivanka's wedding

The opulence and extravagance of the Ambani wedding attracted considerable attention, with estimates indicating that the event cost approximately $600 million. The couple's attire was crafted by renowned international fashion houses such as Versace and Dolce & Gabbana, alongside prominent Indian designers including Tarun Tahiliani and Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla.

The pre-wedding festivities for the couple featured a three-day celebration at the Ambani residence in Jamnagar, Gujarat, attended by notable guests like Ivanka Trump, Hillary Clinton, and Bill Gates. Notably, the report mentioned that Preston also designed the 2009 wedding of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, the daughter of US President Donald Trump. Preston remarked, “Luxury weddings have turned theatrical.”

With an unlimited budget for personalized details, creating high-end weddings where no expense is spared necessitates creativity, meticulous attention to detail, and a profound understanding of the couple's vision. In the same report, Preston elaborated on how he actualized even the most intricate wedding dreams.

Preston disclosed that he recently commissioned a $500,000 hologram of a bride’s deceased grandfather to convey well wishes, stating that 'for billionaires, if it’s exciting, they’ll go for it'. He further noted that clients generally 'aspire to present their guests with experiences they have never encountered before'.

Reportedly, Preston has 'constructed $600,000 structures, rented 10-foot candelabras, and ordered custom furniture from Egypt', and he typically utilizes silk flowers for overhead installations, which can range from $25,000 to $75,000.

He recounted an incident when flowers shipped from the Netherlands for a wedding in Kuwait were delayed at the airport due to a purported customs issue – and 'he had to send someone with $3,000 or $4,000 in cash, as at that point you’re willing to do anything'.
