In Mumbai in 2021, actress Dia Mirza wed Vaibhav Rekhi, a businessman. The actor discussed her stepfather, Ahmed Mirza, and stepdaughter, Samaira Rekhi, in an interview with the Official People of India. This is what she said. Regarding her stepdaughter Samaira, Dia Mirza says:

In the interview, she disclosed that she did not grow up reading many fairy tales, which helped her see her stepfather as someone she should not accept. She then mentioned Samaira and added, "Thank God I didn't grow up reading fairy tales." Because those would have introduced a completely different set of prejudices. Stepfathers and stepmothers are always wicked. Samaira is the one who has my number saved on her phone as Dia, not the wicked stepmother just yet. Isn't that what fairy tales accomplish? I'm curious if she's altered the description under my name.

The actress recalled the last time she saw her stepfather, and she thought back fondly, saying, "I began calling him Abba when Abba married Mom." I was very accepting of my kid in my heart and in my mind. He wasn't the kind to hug, cuddle, or express his feelings. He became a real hugger thanks to our efforts. In 2003, before I left for an overseas shoot, I recall seeing him for the last time in Hyderabad. He passed away then. I will always remember the embrace he gave me and the tears in his eyes when he waved goodbye.

About Dia Mirza

When her parents, Deepa and Frank Handrich, separated, Dia was four and a half years old. When she was six, her mother wed Ahmed, her stepfather. Dia and Sahil Sangha, her longtime business partner, wed in 2014. In 2019, they separated. Following their wedding in February 2021, Vaibhav and Vaibhav welcomed their first child in May of the same year. Their son, Avyaan Azaad Rekhi, was born prematurely and spent two months in the NICU. Samaira is Vaibhav's daughter from a prior marriage.
