Dev talks about his relationship with Mithun Chakraborty

Dev – the superstar turned politician in Bengal – has completed 10 years in parliamentary politics. He is contesting for the third time from Ghatal as the TMC candidate. A month back, he hinted at contesting no more. But he changed his decision after meeting the chief minister of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee. He said that even if he wanted to leave politics, politics did not want to leave him.

The obstacle for Dev’s hattrick is his colleague Hiran, the BJP candidate from Ghatal. How much trouble the ‘failed hero’ of Tollywood can give Dev is a matter of analysis. But Dev does politics with an idea and he does not want to make any slanderous remark against the opponent. He believes in courtesy. That was why he did not hesitate to wish the BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar the best.

Dev, a star campaigner of the TMC, is traveling to the interior corners of Balurghat, Raiganj, Howrah, and other constituencies for campaigning. He came to the studio of a news channel amidst these. ABP Ananda asked him about BJP’s Mithun Chakraborty, who was attacked as a ‘traitor’ recently by Mamata Banerjee.

Dev’s good relationship with Mithun is known to everyone and he looks up to him as a father figure. But Mamata Banerjee said, “I made Mithun Chakraborty a Rajya Sabha MP, but I did not know he was such a traitor.” What is Dev’s reaction? He did a straight bat. He said ‘I don’t like this word very much. You showed me Didi’s footage, now please show me Modi's footage as well, where he teases as ‘Didi O Didi’...It is bad taste…The PM is telling that to a CM. Thousands of people are hearing these words. I am against these words, these attitudes, and these behaviors. We become Hindus and Muslims when elections come. But those in the Election Commission are not taking any steps.”

Dev was summoned under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. He is under the ED scanner for the smuggling of cattle. Dev said that the ED officials behaved politely during the interrogation. He said that the central agencies are influenced by political parties which is not a hopeful sign for a country. He is interested in making a film about the central agencies. ‘I don’t know Enamull Haque’, Dev said while defending himself in the controversy.

Dev said, “I won two elections in the last ten years, and I won with love. I never used any slang. So, an election can be won with love.” He also said, “When I got the ticket for the first time in 2014, I did not know what politics was. I contested because Srikant Mohta asked me to do so.”
