Designer Explains the Meaning Behind Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Wedding Gown Transformation
5 months ago | 5 Views
After her breakup with Naga Chaitanya, Samantha Ruth Prabhu's wedding gown was transformed into a black dress, which sparked rumors that it was a "revenge dress." The designer responsible for the change has finally discussed the ideas and creative process behind the work.
Samantha's effort to move on
Following her breakup from Naga Chaitanya, designer Kresha Bajaj discussed Samantha's recycled wedding attire in an interview with Pinkvilla. Samantha was seeking to "regain something personal" via the change, she added.
"That piece was more than a garment—it was a memory sewn into something new. I was honored to be a part of Samantha's effort to reclaim something really personal, Kresha said.
The designer said, "We intentionally reinvented it while preserving the essence -- the soul of the original outfit." It was about recognizing the past with dignity and turning it into something special, not about forgetting it.
When Samantha transformed her wedding dress
Samantha attended the Elle Sustainability Awards in April 2024 and wore her wedding dress. Kresha Bajaj, who created Samantha's wedding dress as well, posted a reel of the gown's creation on Instagram at the time. She demonstrated that they hand-sewed floral and crystal details onto her white dress in 2016 and then, years later, for the awards ceremony, they did the same after changing the silhouette and dyeing it all black.
"We adored collaborating with our muse, Samantha, to help her create a new memory and tell a different story," the designer wrote. Beauty lasts forever. Additionally, it is capable of changing its shape on a daily basis."
"We cannot ignore sustainability anymore," Samantha wrote while posting monochromatic images of herself in the gown. That point when it was a choice is now behind us. Our planet's long-term health is now dependent on it. The beautiful dress I'm wearing today has been redesigned by the most talented @kreshabajajofficial for this special event.
"Although some may see that as insignificant or even entitled, I can assure you that repurposing my old clothing is just one of many deliberate actions I am taking to change my lifestyle and make it more sustainable," she continued.
Samantha married her Ye Maaya Chesave co-star Naga Chaitanya on October 6, 2017, in Goa. A few days before their anniversary in 2021, the couple announced in an Instagram post that they were separated, with their divorce coming through soon after.
