Darsheel Safary, who played Ishaan Awasthi in Taare Zameen Par, has discussed his absence from Aamir Khan's upcoming movie Sitaare Zameen Par. In an interview with News18, Darsheel said that there "might have been days" when he thought it would be "cool" to be in the RS Prasanna-directed film. In Taare Zameen Par, he referred to himself as a "zariya (medium)."

When Darsheel Safary expressed his interest in joining Sitaare Zameen Par, he discussed it. All of the characters in Taare Zameen Par were mediums. It was never mine. Since their decisions matter and the audience should have fun, Aamir sir must have been thinking that while producing the movie. I'm fine with the fact that I wasn't a part of Sitaare Zameen Par. I simply count myself fortunate to be a part of that legacy.
