Bollywood came together in Mumbai yesterday to mourn and remember Rono Mukherjee, a respected director who recently passed away. Family, friends, and film industry veterans gathered for a prayer meeting. He was known as Kajol’s uncle and also the uncle of Rani Mukherjee and director Ayan Mukherjee. His death marks the end of a special, lesser-known part of Hindi cinema.

Kajol, who shared a close bond with her uncle, was among the first to arrive. She looked emotional, hugging family members and offering support. Other well-known visitors included veteran actress Jaya Bachchan and her daughter Shweta Bachchan. They arrived quietly and joined the respectful gathering.

Salim Khan, a legendary screenwriter and Salman Khan’s father, was also there. Though he looked frail and needed help walking, his presence was a touching tribute. It showed the strong bond he had with Rono Mukherjee over many years. The event was a reminder of how connected Rono was to Bollywood, despite directing just two films.

His films include Tu Hi Meri Zindagi from 1965 and Haiwan from 1977. He was also the father of actress Sharbani Mukherjee, known for movies like Border and Mohandas. The prayer meet was a reunion for the Mukherjee family and a quiet tribute to the impact Rono Mukherjee had on friends, family, and colleagues.
