Justin Baldoni's case against Blake is dismissed by the judge

Justin Baldoni suffered a significant legal setback on Monday when a judge rejected his defamation suit against The New York Times and his countersuit against Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist. The director's $650 million lawsuit, which alleged defamation and extortion, comes to an end with the court's ruling.

“The Wayfarer Parties have not alleged that Lively is responsible for any statements other than the statements in her CRD complaint, which are privileged,” Judge Lewis J. Liman wrote in the opinion and order filing, as reported by PEOPLE. The Wayfarer Parties have alleged that Reynolds and [publicist Leslie] Sloane made additional statements accusing Baldoni of sexual misconduct and that the Times made additional statements accusing the Wayfarer Parties of engaging in a smear campaign.”

Meanwhile, Blake Lively's lawyers, Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb, called the ruling a "total victory and a complete vindication" for the Gossip Girl actress and others whom "Justin Baldoni and the Wayfarer Parties dragged into their retaliatory lawsuit, including Ryan Reynolds, Leslie Sloane and The New York Times."

In the ongoing legal dispute regarding the production and distribution of the 2024 film It Ends With Us, the decision represents the most recent development. In January, Justin Baldoni sued Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively for $400 million, claiming that the Hollywood actors had attempted to ruin his reputation by accusing him of sexual harassment.
