The recently released Tamil drama Kaantha, starring Dulquer Salmaan, Bhagyashri Borse, and Rana Daggubati, has been garnering positive attention in theatres. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, the film, which is set against the intriguing backdrop of 1950s Madras, has struck a chord with critics and audiences alike. Kaantha unfolds the story of a superstar named TK Mahadevan, played by Dulquer Salmaan, as he shoots for a fictional horror film in 1950s Madras. The plot centers on an ego clash between Mahadevan and his former mentor, filmmaker Ayya (Samuthirakani), which spirals into grave consequences. Bhagyashri Borse takes on the role of Kumari, a budding actor, while Rana Daggubati appears as a police inspector named Phoenix. Produced jointly by Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati under Wayfarer Films and Spirit Media, the film hit the screens on November 14 and has been performing decently at the box office, grossing close to ₹19.95 crore so far.

The Scene That Caused Hesitation

In a conversation with Sudhir Srinivasan, shared on X, director Selvamani Selvaraj and actress Bhagyashri Borse discussed various aspects of the film's production. Bhagyashri revealed her initial apprehension regarding a specific scene that required her character to deliver a slap to Dulquer Salmaan’s character. This moment, which undoubtedly adds dramatic weight to the narrative, proved to be an uncomfortable experience for the actress.

Dulquer Salmaan's Commitment to Perfection

Opening up about the intense moment, Bhagyashri confessed to being "a little hesitant" about the action. She explained that she had never performed such a scene before, emphasizing the genuine difficulty she faced in carrying it out. However, she quickly added that the scene’s demanding nature was actually requested by her co-star.

"I think he (Dulquer) wanted that perfection," she stated, highlighting the dedication of the leading man. According to Bhagyashri, Dulquer was willing to endure the physical action repeatedly to ensure the performance was authentic and impactful. She expressed her immense respect for his professionalism and commitment to his craft, acknowledging that they "really went for it" to achieve the desired result on screen.

Bhagyashri's account not only offers a peek into the filming process but also underscores the seriousness with which Dulquer Salmaan approaches his roles, pushing for realism even if it involves personal discomfort. The episode is a testament to the effort put in by the cast and crew to bring the well-received period drama, Kaantha, to life.
