At the age of 87, veteran actress B. Saroja Devi, often regarded as the first female superstar in Kannada cinema, died in Bengaluru on July 14, 2025. According to reports, the award-winning actress had ailments associated with aging. Social media users have expressed their condolences from a number of film figures.

One of the formidable names from the South throughout the 1950s and 1960s was B Saroja Devi, who had starred in films in Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu. She has also performed in Hindi. According to media reports, the seasoned actress passed away in Bengaluru on Monday morning.
Known by the names "Abhinaya Saraswathi" and "Kannadathu Paingili," the actress debuted in the Kannada film Mahakavi Kalidasa in 1955. She also rose to fame in 1958 after appearing in the Tamil movie Nadodi Mannan alongside the renowned actor MG Ramachandran (MGR).
Some of her other well-known co-stars include the legendary Sivaji Ganesan, the titans NT Rama Rao, and Shammi Kapoor, who have all performed in various languages. The government gave her Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the film industry.

The passing of the seasoned actor has been mourned by film stars, fans, and people from all walks of life. The veteran actress's passing was lamented on social media by well-known south actress Simran, who just appeared in the popular Tamil movie Tourist Family. Although the legendary Saroja Devi amma is no longer with us, her influence on Indian film will endure forever. "An era gold golden cinema comes to an end," wrote Khushbu Sundar, another politician and south actress, in a message on X.
Referring to her as "the greatest of all times," Khushbu said that "No other female actor in south has ever enjoyed the name and fame as her." She was such a sweet, endearing person. Had a wonderful connection with her. I didn't feel like my trip to Bengaluru was complete until I had met her. Additionally, she would phone from Chennai whenever she was there. I will miss her terribly.
