The Indian version of Karan Johar's The Traitors on Prime Video has generated debate over the game's rules and the purported emotional impact it had on some of the participants.

On the show, Anshula Kapoor discusses her challenges

Contestant Anshula Kapoor spoke with The Quint about her difficult experience on the program. In a secret place where trust, strategy, and betrayal collide, the show features a cast of characters that includes Uorfi Javed, Maheep Kapoor, Apoorva Mukhija, Raj Kundra, Ashish Vidyarthi, Mukesh Chhabra, Raftaar, and others.

Anshula stated that the promises made during pre-production meetings were the main factor in her decision to participate in the program. "The program would be similar to the original format, but that is not what it turned out to be," she said.

The mental and emotional cost outweighed the physical demands.

Anshula described her experience on The Traitors as "traumatizing" and "stressful," adding that the psychological and emotional toll was far greater than the physical requirements of the production. "It was not about filming long hours but about the conversations and atmosphere of the house," she said.

Being cut off from the outside world was one of the most difficult aspects of the shoot, she remembered. Living without any connection to the outside world throughout the program was exceedingly challenging, according to Anshula. They were unable to contact any of their rivals after they departed the shooting zone.

rigorous surveillance and a lack of fundamental amenities

The constraints went beyond just the hours of filming. Anshula stated that our room lacked an intercom system. Because our room numbers were obscured, we were unable to identify our own or anybody else's. They had put wind chimes outside our room door, and if you opened the door at an inappropriate time, someone would come and advise you to stay in your room.

"I remember a day when the competitors were kept in their separate chambers for 24 hours, and they weren't filming," she said, recalling one case in particular.

Post-show recovery

Following the incident, a period of intensive emotional recovery was essential. "I had to go back into intensive therapy after the show, and I was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder," Anshula revealed.

The Traitors continues to dominate Prime Video due to its drama and betrayals, but Anshula Kapoor's confessions have brought the psychological impact that reality television can have on its subjects to the forefront.
