One of Bollywood’s most cherished on-screen pairings is set to grace the silver screen once more! Reports confirm that the immensely talented Vidya Balan has been finalized as the leading lady opposite Akshay Kumar in director Anees Bazmee's upcoming project. This exciting collaboration marks a significant reunion for all involved, promising cinephiles a treat that blends star power with proven directorial flair.
A Long-Awaited Reunion for Director and Star
The announcement of the Anees Bazmee film is already generating buzz, not just for its stellar cast but also for the creative synergy behind the camera. Bazmee and Kumar are set to work together after a considerable gap of 14 years, their last joint venture being the 2011 film Thank You. Bazmee, known for his masterful handling of comedy and entertaining narratives, and Kumar, the box office titan, form a formidable team. Their reunion on this new project is eagerly anticipated, with fans hoping for a fresh yet signature Bazmee-style hit.
Akshay and Vidya: Effortless Chemistry Returns After Six Years
The real headline-grabber, however, is the casting of Vidya Balan. This project will see her and Akshay Kumar sharing screen space for the first time since the highly successful 2019 space drama, Mission Mangal. Before that, their combined charm shone brightly in films like Heyy Babyy (2007) and the iconic horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007).

The decision to cast Vidya was reportedly an easy one. As sources close to the development told HT City, "Akshay and Vidya share effortless chemistry as actors... Off screen too they share a good equation. Which is why it was a resounding yes from everyone in the team when Vidya's name popped up." The script for the film reportedly features two key female roles, and Vidya Balan has secured one of them, indicating a potentially complex and engaging narrative structure.
What's Next for the Action Superstar
Before this new Anees Bazmee venture hits the floor, Akshay Kumar has a packed schedule. He was recently seen in Subhash Kapoor's critically and commercially successful legal comedy-drama, Jolly LLB 3, where he shared the spotlight with a brilliant ensemble cast, including Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla.
Looking ahead, the 58-year-old actor has two major releases lined up for 2026, both under the direction of veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan: Bhooth Bangla and Haiwaan. Bhooth Bangla will also feature the versatile Tabu and is being backed by Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms. In a significant shift, Kumar will be exploring a darker side in Haiwaan, playing a negative character in the movie. This thriller is a reimagining of the acclaimed 2016 Malayalam film Oppam, which starred Mohanlal, also directed by Priyadarshan. Haiwaan will co-star Saif Ali Khan, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Saiyami Kher.
The confirmed pairing of Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan under Anees Bazmee's direction sets the stage for what could be one of the most exciting film announcements of the year. Fans are already looking forward to witnessing their proven, charismatic on-screen collaboration once again.
