Air India Pilots Blamed: Grover, Taneja Call Out Racial Bias
4 months ago | 5 Views
The preliminary report on the crash of Air India flight 171 in Ahmedabad last month, which claimed 260 lives, has caused a stir. Just prior to the tragic event, there was disorientation in the cockpit, according to the report. The report's conclusions, which suggest pilot error, have now been responded to by influencer Gaurav Taneja and lyricist and novelist Varun Grover.
What did the initial report say?
On Saturday, the initial report from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) into the Air India flight 171 tragedy was made public. The catastrophe was attributed to the fuel supply to both engines being cut off soon after takeoff.
According to the report, one pilot asked his partner in the cockpit voice recording why he had cut off the fuel supply to both engines, but the other pilot refuted the question. The selective publication of a single paraphrased line from what may be many minutes of taped discourse has been criticized by several Indian professionals. In fact, India's pilot community also criticized the crash report, and aviation groups charged investigators with hurrying to imply that the flight crew was at fault.
Varun Grover responds
In response to the article, Varun also posted his displeasure on X, formerly known as Twitter, and criticized the results. "Shilling for Boeing," he said. The white guy will always side with the white guy. “Shame.”
Gaurav also took the social media route to share his frustration over the findings in the report. He tweeted, “As expected ‘Blame the deceased Pilots’. They can’t come back to defend themselves. #Being has a lot of questions to answer!! BBC already gave Boeing a clean chit! #AirIndiaFlightCrash”.
