Age is Just a Number: Anasuya Bharadwaj Shuts Down Trolls with Sharp Reply to 'Aunty' Slurs
7 days ago | 5 Views
Actress Anasuya Bharadwaj is once again proving that she will not back down from tackling societal double standards. After bravely calling out fellow actor Sivaji for making misogynistic remarks about actresses and their attire at a recent event, Anasuya found herself targeted by a barrage of ageist trolls who attempted to dismiss her criticism by labeling her 'aunty'. The actress responded with a sharp, logical retort, effectively dismantling the hypocrisy of her online attackers.
The Initial Call-Out and the Backlash
The controversy began when actor Sivaji made widely condemned misogynistic comments regarding actresses and their choice of clothing during the pre-release event for the film Dhandoraa on a recent Monday evening. His remarks sparked immediate outrage across social media platforms.
Anasuya Bharadwaj was among the first prominent voices to publicly call out the comments, utilizing her social media accounts to express her displeasure with the actor's regressive and sexist statements. However, instead of engaging with the validity of her criticism, a segment of the online community resorted to personal attacks, attempting to silence her by resorting to age-shaming and repeatedly calling her "aunty."
Anasuya’s Unapologetic Stand Against Hypocrisy
Refusing to be silenced or shamed, Anasuya took to her X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday to deliver a powerful final statement on the matter. Writing in Telugu, she highlighted the glaring double standard demonstrated by her critics.
"I will say one last thing today," she began. "Being unable to address the issue, men and women are age shaming me and calling me aunty. And yet, they address him [Sivaji] with respect."
She powerfully contrasted their respective ages to expose the absurdity of the ageist slur. "I am a hypocrite for some reason, I am 40 and he's 54 I think," she wrote. "And yet, both of us are maintaining our 'glamour' for personal reasons or our professions. I guess everyone criticising had eternal youth."
The Logic of Age and Professionalism
Anasuya’s response was not just emotional; it was deeply logical, emphasizing that both she and the actor she criticized are in professions that necessitate maintaining a certain public image. The core of her argument rested on the hypocrisy of trolls who simultaneously use respectful titles for the older male actor while using a derogatory, age-shaming term for her.
She concluded with a poignant observation about the futility of arguing with those unwilling to listen: "No matter what I say it'll be like blowing a conch in a deaf person's ear.” However, her voice resonated far beyond the trolls. Her firm stance earned widespread support from netizens and fans who praised her courage in tackling both sexism and ageism simultaneously, reinforcing her reputation as a personality who champions fairness and calls out misconduct without fear.
