Adnan Sami Compares Pakistanis to ‘Ex-Lovers’ After Moving On

Adnan Sami has a hypothesis as to why Pakistanis continue to discuss his shift in citizenship. Adnan used to be a citizen of Pakistan, but in 2016 he was given Indian citizenship, which continues to draw criticism from across the border. In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Adnan proposed that Pakistanis are experiencing what he calls "ex-lover syndrome."

Adnan Sami's hypothesis of "ex-lover syndrome"

"It's like an ex-lover," he stated. It's a nice comparison. When an ex-lover sees you moving on and getting involved with someone else, they will always find reasons to dislike you. However, the truth is that they are still in love with you. And love can take many bizarre forms. You could even say... but the bottom line is that I somehow comprehend their emotional state.

Adnan said that his choice to switch citizenship was well-founded, but that people have more trouble with him doing it than with the thousands of others who do it every day. "First of all, for whatever reason, we're all aware of the geopolitical rivalry between India and Pakistan. However, it's more about having the ex-lover syndrome," he stated.

What was the reason for the change?

He claimed that in his 40 years of creating music, he had never gotten any accolades or official recognition from the government there. He also discussed other difficulties he encountered throughout that time. He stated unequivocally that his audience had always been kind and encouraging, and that they still were. Adnan stated that he had a profound love for them and that he was still sincerely appreciative of all the love they had given him. He emphasized that his problems were never with them and that he wanted them to comprehend this.

“The government and the manner in which they have treated me have been the source of my problems. They are unaware of this; how could they be? Nevertheless, I have always adored my audiences. Everyone who loves me, I love them all equally in return, as you mentioned about being an artist," he stated.

In addition to his successful albums, Adnan Sami has contributed his voice to a number of well-known Bollywood tunes, such as Dil Kya Kare in Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love, Tu Sirf Mera Mehboob in Ajnabee, Nashe Nashe Mein Yaar in Janasheen, Baatein Kuch Ankahein Si in Life in a... Metro, and Shayad Yahi To Pyar Hai in Lucky: No Time for Love. In 2020, the Indian government gave him the Padma Shri honor.
