According to Abhijeet Sawant, the winner of Indian Idol Season 1, maintaining relevance is more important than just winning reality competitions. He notes that, compared to the winners of reality programs, Arijit Singh and Neha Kakkar—who did not win a reality show—are more popular nowadays.

Reality shows with Abhijeet

In an interview with Galatta India, Abhijeet was questioned about whether winning a reality TV program or maintaining relevance after the win is more important to him.

Abhijeet retorted, "I believe the real challenge is getting anywhere. The ultimate goal is not to win the trophy. Winning is fantastic, but the true accomplishment is when you become well-known, when you overcome your origins, and when you establish a career from there."

He claims that the visibility that a reality program receives is more important than winning. Speaking on the increased significance of fan following, Abhijeet stated, "We've often seen winners chosen based on popularity rather than talent, and sometimes, talented artists lose just because they don't have a fan base... Take Neha Kakkar or Arijit Singh, for example; despite not winning, they achieved far greater success than several winners. I'm being really truthful and humble when I say that having an identity and being noticed are more important than a prize.

Arijit Singh came in sixth place on Fame Gurukul, but Neha Kakkar was ousted from Indian Idol 2 in the early rounds.
