In a ceremony held on Sunday in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Indian cricketer Rinku Singh proposed to Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj. The cricketer and the politician posted the news on Instagram, saying, "This day has been in our hearts for so long — almost three years — and the wait was worth every second. Committed – with a full heart and a lifetime ahead of them.”

Five authorized engagement photos shared by the pair followed the announcement. In his cream achkan and leather loafers, Rinku looked great. Silver thread was used to embroider the jacket. Priya was radiant in a light pink lehenga adorned with floral designs and gota work. Her hair was done up in a half-up manner, and she paired it with an emerald necklace.

The newlyweds were showered with blessings by the audience. "Congratulations bhaiya bhabhi," one supporter said in a letter. "Congratulations bhaiya for new Journey," said one remark. Others questioned whether Rinku and Priya's relationship was a love marriage based on their communication. "What is this love marriage? You have been waiting three years?"

"Bhabhi new bat gift kar dena rinku bhai ko (Gift him a new cricket bat now)," someone joked.

Who else attended the engagement?

The engagement ceremony was attended by several notable members of the Samajwadi Party, including party leader and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav, who gave the pair his heartfelt congratulations.

"Politics and cricket are two very different fields," Akhilesh stated during the event. However, the most important thing is that both families are happy when two individuals have similar ideas and beliefs. I would want to express my congratulations to both of them."

"We have blessed them both..." said Dimple Yadav, the Samajwadi Party MP who was also there to offer her blessings.

On X, SP head Rajeev Rai expressed his wishes, saying, "Reached the auspicious occasion of the engagement of younger sister and MP @PriyaSarojMP with the brilliant cricketer Rinku Singh in Lucknow and extended best wishes and blessings. May the couple always be happy."

"Heartiest congratulations to socialist colleagues Priya Saroj ji and Rinku Singh ji for this new journey," wrote SP leader Puja Saroj on X.

Rinku has been a key contributor to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the T20 competition, he has participated in 59 games, scoring 1099 runs at a strike rate of 145.20. He hit four half-centuries in the lucrative tournament.
