XEV 9e and BE 6: Mahindra’s Aussie Arrival

In a significant move for the company's worldwide EV strategy, Mahindra is getting ready to introduce two of its all-electric SUVs—the XEV 9e and BE 6—in Australia. At the introduction of the gasoline-powered XUV 3XO in Australia, Sachin Arolkar, Head of International Operations at Mahindra, provided the confirmation.
"It's already a work in progress," Arolkar told Australian outlet Drive. "I don't think it will be too far in the future, given that we released these models in India in March."
Under its Electric Origin sub-brand, which has five forthcoming electric vehicles, Mahindra's Born Electric range includes both the XEV 9e and the BE 6. Based on the INGLO skateboard platform that was created in partnership with Volkswagen, these models are now being produced at the brand's new Chakan EV factory in India.
The March launch in India indicates that exports to the Australian market may start by the beginning of 2025, even if Mahindra has not provided specific delivery schedules for the Australian market. The BE 6 is anticipated to come first, followed by the higher-end XEV 9e.
Arolkar stressed that electric will continue to be a strategic priority over hybrids, and that by 2027, Mahindra hopes for 20–30% of its international sales to be electric cars.

Specifications for the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e:
The BE 6, according to Mahindra, can have a range of up to 535 km when fitted with the 59 kWh battery pack. The claimed range increases to 682 km for those who choose the larger 79 kWh battery. The XEV 9e, on the other hand, is claimed to have a somewhat greater range of 542 kilometers with the 59 kWh unit and 656 kilometers with the 79 kWh pack.
Both battery options support DC fast charging, up to 175 kW. The battery can now be charged from 20% to 80% in only 20 minutes, which is ideal for rapid top-ups.
The larger battery increases the maximum power to 285 horsepower, while the smaller one only produces 230 horsepower in terms of performance. Both SUVs produce a constant torque of 380 Nm, regardless of battery capacity. These EVs will initially only be available from Mahindra with a rear-wheel drive configuration. Drivers will also have access to three different driving modes: Range, Everyday, and Race, as well as extra Boost and One-Pedal Drive features.
79 kWh Battery Now Available Throughout the Lineup
Given that the majority of consumers are looking for greater considerations of practicality rather than just performance, Mahindra recently increased its EV options in India by making the 79 kWh battery pack available across more models in order to increase driving ranges. The battery uses LFP battery chemistry, which improves thermal stability, longevity, and safety.
