With a number of design elements and performance features now visible under the thinning camouflage, new spy shots show that the development of the AMG-tuned model is in full swing.

2026 Mercedes-AMG CLA EV: Design

The front of the AMG variant features a redesigned bumper with big air intakes and a new central opening with a unique mesh pattern. The key differences from the standard CLA EV include a closed grill and Mercedes' distinctive "starry" LED headlights, though some specifics are still unclear.

The AMG's performance ambitions are indicated by lighter wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres and sportier side skirts along the sides. The front fenders display AMG badging, a subtle reference to the vehicle's greater capabilities, while a robust braking system with red callipers is located behind the wheels.

Although the back design seems rather subdued at first glance, a closer look reveals an active spoiler. The AMG model is also anticipated to stand out from its standard counterpart with a modified rear bumper and diffuser configuration, which will add to its downforce and visual aggressiveness.

Although spy photographers could not obtain a good shot of the cabin, we may anticipate a minimalist design with performance cues such as unique trim and a flat-bottom steering wheel, based on AMG's usual style. Predicted powertrain for the Mercedes-AMG CLA EV in 2026

Earlier reports suggested that there was significant firepower beneath the surface, but Mercedes is still silent about specifics. The AMG CLA EV is rumored to use axial flux motors created by Mercedes' Yasa subsidiary, with a possible three-motor configuration capable of producing over 493 horsepower. If so, it would be in direct competition with the Tesla Model 3 Performance, which has a 503 horsepower output and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 2.9 seconds.

In addition to its performance, the performance CLA EV is anticipated to have a "V8 Mode" that replicates the sound of an internal combustion engine, particularly a V8, providing a nostalgic auditory experience for fans. This adds a touch of drama to the overall experience. Although technical specifics are still unclear, a one-of-a-kind battery pack made exclusively for AMG is also anticipated.
