In Delhi, the Indian electric mobility business Matter debuted its Aera electric motorbike, signaling the regional debut of what the firm claims is India's first geared electric two-wheeler. The Aera is currently available for reservation on the company's official website, with a cost of ₹1,93,826 (ex-showroom).
The introduction of electric vehicles is occurring at a time when Delhi, one of the most congested and polluted cities in the nation, is still seeing growing interest in this mode of transportation. In a market where simple automatic drivetrains are the norm, the Aera's entrance is being promoted as a combination of performance, technology, and efficiency.
Material Area: Electric manual transmission
The ‘HyperShift’ transmission, a 4-speed manual gearbox created in-house, is a standout feature of the Aera. This system is coupled with three ride modes, which enable a total of twelve gear-mode combinations. Matter is betting on the idea that manual control can add a layer of rider engagement that is largely absent in the EV market, whereas the majority of electric two-wheelers provide a twist-and-go experience.
Matter Area: Powertrain and Performance
Designed to withstand Indian road and weather conditions, the Aera is driven by a liquid-cooled electric drivetrain that Matter also created. Under IDC conditions, it is certified to have a range of up to 172 km with its 5 kWh battery pack. The bike is capable of going from 0 to 40 kmph in under 2.8 seconds, according to the manufacturer.
Matter's Area: Tech specs and connection
The Aera has an integrated 7-inch touchscreen display in the cockpit that includes ride data, navigation, and music controls. Additionally, it enables over-the-air (OTA) software upgrades. The bundle includes connectivity, and the MatterVerse app offers capabilities like live location tracking, geo-fencing, ride analytics, and remote locking and unlocking.
Subject Area: Security and Ease
The Aera has a dual suspension system and a dual-disc configuration with ABS for braking and ride comfort. For ease of usage, the bike also has a keyless start system and a clever parking assist feature to help with slow-speed maneuvers.
Material Aera: Ownership and running expenses
Regarding running costs, Matter predicts that the Aera will use around 25 paise of energy per kilometer, which might result in a savings of up to ₹1 lakh over three years when compared to commuter bikes that run on gasoline.
Subject Area: Vision
The Aera represents a step in redefining what electric motorcycles can provide, according to Arun Pratap Singh, the founder and group COO of Matter. "Delhi is not only the capital, but it is also a pace-setting metropolis. The AERA is about practicality, precision, and power, he said.
The AERA is exclusively manufactured in India and caters to city riders seeking a unique electric option that doesn't sacrifice connectivity or control. Matter hopes to establish a niche in the expanding, but mostly automated, electric two-wheeler market with this launch.
