Maruti Suzuki Reports 6% Drop in June 2025 Sales, Export Growth Offers Relief
5 months ago | 5 Views
Total vehicle sales for Maruti Suzuki India Limited for June 2025 were 1,67,993. The business marks a six percent decrease year over year, falling from the 1,79,228 units sold in June 2024. Robust export demand supported a drop in domestic volumes during the month's performance. The firm attributes the decline in domestic sales to a broader decrease in the mass market for small cars.
Total domestic sales, which included passenger cars, light commercial vehicles (LCVs), and parts provided to other OEMs, decreased from 1,48,195 units in June 2024 to 1,30,151 units. The number of passenger cars sold in the local market fell by 13% year over year to 1,18,906 vehicles.
The majority of Maruti's volume comes from its compact and entry-level hatchbacks, which also experienced a decline in sales. Models like the Alto, S-Presso, Swift, Baleno, and WagonR saw a close to 18% year-over-year drop in combined sales between the Mini and Compact categories, from 73,444 units to 60,591.
Sales of utility cars, including the Brezza, Fronx, Grand Vitara, and Jimny, fell from 52,373 units in June 2024 to 47,947 units. In comparison to the 572 units sold during the same period last year, the Ciaz sedan had a little rise with 1,028 units, while the Eeco van had 9,340 units.
The slowdown in passenger vehicle sales is caused by a "sharp decline in the smaller segment cars," according to Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki. “Passenger car sales used to expand 1.5 times the rate of GDP growth,” he stated. “However, even with a 6.5% GDP increase, the car market is now almost flat.” This is due to the fact that the formerly massive tiny car market is completely missing out on the expansion. The problem is obviously that it's not affordable. The entry-level pricing in the sector has increased by more than 70% since 2019, primarily due to increased rules, and sales of smaller automobiles have decreased by more than 70%.
Reaching its highest-ever monthly volume, exports:
Maruti recorded its greatest monthly export volume ever, while domestic sales fell. The total number of exports increased by 22% to 37,842 units in June 2025, compared to 31,033 units in the same month the previous year. This emphasizes the increasing significance of foreign markets in the company's overall sales plan. Sales to other OEMs increased somewhat as well, reaching 8,812 units.
The first quarter of FY26 saw Maruti Suzuki sell a total of 527,861 units, just a little more than the 521,868 units sold during the same period the previous year.
