Two new projects have increased the solar power capacity of Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) by 30 MWp. In line with its environmental objectives and broader production goals, the corporation has taken these steps in order to obtain a more sustainable, renewable energy source for its operations.

The new MSIL facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana, has a 20 MWp solar power project, while the Manesar facility has an additional 10 MWp of solar capacity. Over the last year, as a result of these developments, MSIL's total installed solar capacity has increased from 49 MWp to 79 MWp across its sites. In order to lessen its reliance on non-renewable energy, the corporation says that it is also expanding its use of green energy obtained from State Electricity Boards.

In line with the Indian government's emphasis on renewable energy and Suzuki Motor Corporation's Environment Vision 2050, Maruti Suzuki has established a long-term plan for its transition to green energy. With an investment of more than INR 925 crore, the firm expects to reach 319MWp of solar capacity by the fiscal year 2030–31.

By then, MSIL anticipates that around 85% of its overall energy use will come from renewable resources. The company's strategy to expand its total vehicle production to four million units per year aligns with this project.

Kharkhoda, India, Maruti Suzuki manufacturing facility

The Kharkhoda facility, which is situated in Sonipat, Haryana, is a key component of Maruti Suzuki's plans for growing its manufacturing capacity. With the first operating module having a capacity of 250,000 units annually and currently producing the Brezza compact SUV, commercial production at this greenfield production facility began in February 2025. A second, similar plant is being built.

The MSIL board recently approved a third manufacturing proposal in Kharkhoda with a projected investment of ₹7,410 crore. By 2029, the facility is expected to be operational, with a projected capacity of an additional 250,000 units per year. The total anticipated capacity in Kharkhoda will be 750,000 units annually.

The Kharkhoda plant employs cutting-edge technologies like Industry 4.0, digitalization, and artificial intelligence, including high-speed precision robots for automated welding and collaborative robots for inspection, among others. It has logistical accessibility due to its 900-acre site close to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway. Maruti Suzuki will be able to meet its overall production capacity of 4 million vehicles by 2030–31 thanks to the Kharkhoda expansion.
