The most registered electric automobiles in India are found in Uttar Pradesh. With 4.14 lakh registered electric vehicles, the state now ranks higher than Delhi and Maharashtra. Maharashtra has 1.79 lakh registered EVs, while Delhi has 1.83 lakh. The adoption of electric vehicles in these states is largely influenced by the FAME programs of the federal government as well as the state-specific EV policies.
The PTI has stated that Uttar Pradesh has also become the largest beneficiary of the Central government's FAME I and FAME II (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India) program, which has given the state's electric mobility drive additional support. In an effort to speed up the use of electric vehicles and establish a strong charging infrastructure, the UP government introduced its specialized Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022. The UP government hopes to generate 10 lakh jobs in the electric mobility industry and an investment inflow of ₹30,000 crore with this EV policy.

The report also claims that e-rickshaws, which account for 85% of electric vehicle sales in Uttar Pradesh, have been the main factor behind the expansion of electric mobility in the state.
The UP government announced lately that it has authorized the establishment of over 300 additional electric vehicle charging stations throughout 16 municipalities. The most new electric vehicle charging stations are anticipated to be in Ayodhya, which is a rapidly expanding tourist hub. The report also claimed that the state government has made it a priority to improve the current infrastructure and create more electric vehicle rapid charging stations, adding that India now has about 33,000 EV chargers, 35% of which are rapid chargers.
India might become a significant player in the global electric mobility landscape by 2030, with 102 million electric vehicles on its roads, according to an Alvarez & Marsal research. Additionally, it asserts that India now has a ratio of 135 electric vehicles for every public charge point, which is significantly higher than the global average of 6 to 20.
