Family Safety First: 5 Cars with Low GNCAP Ratings You Should Avoid
4 months ago | 5 Views
1 Maruti Suzuki Alto K10
One of the least expensive automobiles in India is the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, which earns two stars for adult safety but none for child passenger safety. This indicates that, despite providing some rudimentary crash protection for adults, it is a dangerous choice for families with small children.
The Alto K10 has either an AMT gearbox or a 5-speed manual transmission, both of which are powered by a 1.0-liter petrol engine that generates 89 Nm of torque and 67 PS. Additionally, a CNG version is available, which produces 57 PS in an environmentally friendly manner. The vehicle has rear parking sensors, dual airbags, an ABS with EBD, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Maruti's SmartPlay Studio system. Its low child protection rating, however, points to a significant deficiency in family security despite these changes.
2 Citroen e-C3
The electric hatchback from the French manufacturer, the Citroen e-C3, is next. Recently, it made headlines for receiving a zero-star rating for the protection of adult occupants and only one star for the safety of children. The e-C3 performed poorly in crash tests, offering insufficient protection for the chest area of the driver and front passenger. The lack of three-point seatbelts for all seating positions and the absence of a front airbag deactivation switch, which is necessary for the safe installation of a child seat in the front, were also highlighted by Global NCAP.
With a 29.2 kWh battery and a 57 PS electric motor located under the hood—or rather, under the floor—the e-C3 claims to have a range of roughly 320 kilometers on a full charge. The vehicle features a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as connected car functions in higher trim levels. Nevertheless, the crash test organization has characterized the e-safety C3's performance as "appalling," making it one of the least safe options available, despite its modern technology and electric allure.
Three Maruti Suzuki Ignis
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis also performed poorly, earning only one star for adult passenger protection and none for child safety. Its crash test results, however, contradict its striking and quirky style, which includes a higher posture. The Ignis has a 1.2-liter petrol engine that produces 83 PS and 113 Nm of torque. The engine is coupled with either a manual or an AMT transmission. Dual airbags, rear parking sensors, automatic climate control in higher trims, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system are all included in the inside. However, despite its appealing design and comfortable seating, the car's structural integrity in an accident and the absence of adequate child seat restraint systems make it the least safe option.
4 Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS
The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is another model that performed poorly in crash tests. Only two stars were given to this car for the protection of both adult and kid occupants. Despite its popularity for its smooth ride and acceptable gear levels, its safety features are just average in the event of an accident.
The Grand i10 Nios has a 1.2-liter petrol engine with 83 PS and 113.8 Nm of torque, and it can be paired with a 5-speed manual or AMT transmission. The factory-equipped CNG variant of the Hyundai, which generates 69 PS, is another option. The car's features include projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, an 8-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration, wireless charging in higher models, and dual airbags. For safety-conscious buyers, the lack of structural protection against a frontal collision is a worry, despite these creature conveniences.
5 Maruti Suzuki S-Presso
Finally, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, sometimes advertised as a small SUV, performed poorly in safety testing, receiving only one star for adult protection and zero stars for child protection. The S-Presso provided fair protection for the head and neck of both front occupants during Global NCAP testing. The driver's chest, however, was poorly protected, and the knees were only marginally protected, possibly because of contact with hazardous items behind the dashboard. The S-Presso is available with either a manual or AMT transmission, and it has a 1.0-liter petrol engine that produces 67 horsepower and 89 Nm. There is also a CNG model available. It has a 7-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. Even with its compact size and SUV-inspired style, its low safety rating makes it a less desirable option for families.
