The new FASTag-based annual pass, which costs ₹3,000, was announced by the federal government. Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transportation and Highways (MoRTH), provided additional information about the annual pass, which is intended to facilitate smoother cross tolls throughout the nation. The annual pass, which is based on FASTag, will be valid for a year from the day it is activated or for a maximum of 200 journeys, whichever occurs first, beginning on August 15, 2025.

Annual Fastag Pass: Exclusively for Private Vehicles

Only owners of private, non-commercial vehicles will be eligible for the annual FASTag pass. In addition, Gadkari disclosed that the Rajmarg Yatra app, the official websites of the NHAI and MoRTH will offer a separate connection for activation and renewal.

The FASTag annual pass will use the existing toll infrastructure

The current toll infrastructure will be used by the annual FASTag permit.

Additionally, Nitin Gadkari stated, "This policy addresses long-standing concerns regarding toll plazas located within a 60 km range and simplifies toll payments through a single, affordable transaction. The Annual Pass is intended to give millions of private car owners a quicker and more seamless travel experience by lowering wait times, alleviating traffic, and resolving conflicts at toll booths.

Annual pass for FASTag: Will utilize current infrastructure

The annual pass will give private vehicle owners the ability to drive over state expressways and national highways for a year without incurring any extra toll costs. It will eventually adhere to the sensor-based toll collecting systems that may be implemented in the future and will initially be based on the current FASTag architecture.

The action ought to greatly simplify travel for private cars on toll roads without having a major effect on income. In FY2023–24, the government earned approximately ₹55,000 crore from toll collection, but just ₹8,000 crore of that came from private vehicles. Additionally, the change will lessen the financial strain on car owners.
